Rotational Strip Cropping
ØEqual width strips on contour
ØStrips are rotated through a crop rotation cycle
ØOffset starting dates among strips so that strips of close growing vegetation separate erodible strips
ØBenefit:
-Deposition (full credit)
-Spreading runoff
-Reduced ephemeral gully erosion not credited in RUSLE2
n
A rotational system that starts with a crop rotation like corn-corn-hay-hay-hay.
Rotation is grown in strips so that the crops progress through the rotation on each strip.
Strips are alternated so that the more erodible strips are placed between less erodible strips.
Example:  c-c-h-h-h
               h-h-c-c-h
              c-c-h-h-h
              h-h-c-c-h
Full credit is taken for deposition that occurs with rotational strip cropping.
Dense vegetation strips spread runoff reducing its erosivity
System generally reduces ephemeral gully erosion.
Should be laid out very carefully to be on contour.
