This schematic illustrates the position of each of the subfactor effects.
Some of the subfactors affect erosivity.
Some of the subfactors affect erodibility.
These subfactors are land use independent.
RUSLE2 uses equations to describe the effect of each subfactor and their interactions.
The equations have parameter values that are functions of the properties of the cover-management system, such as percent canopy.
Some of the effects of some subfactors are immediately obvious, while other effects are not.
For example, roots hold the soil in place, die, and add biomass to the soil.  The effect that may not be obvious is that roots and their mass are an indirect indicator of plants removing soil moisture that in turn reduces runoff.
